Ortmayer of Munich (ticket to front pastedown of vol. II), spines lettered in gilt, marbled sides and edges. Housed in a custom brown cloth box. Complete with errata leaf in vol. I and advertisement leaf in vol. II. Joints and extremities expertly repaired to vol. I, the front joint with minor superficial splits. Light rubbing to bindings. Minor chip to front free endpaper of vol. I, a couple of short closed tears to half-title of same, a few other sporadic short closed tears and light browning to contents (as usual), contents without marking. A very good copy.

Spine sunned with some light wear to extremities, a little bumped and soiled with pale dampstain to rear cover, gutter split to p. 73 but holding firm, occasional light spot of foxing but a very good copy, internally clean.

Housed in a brown cloth folding chemise. Black and white illustrated plates by S. Clay Wilson. A couple of light scratches to rear cover, remaining a fine copy.

Contemporary dark brown sheep-backed brown patterned-paper covered boards, manuscript titles in dark brown ink to yellow spine label, blue speckled edges. Housed in a black quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery. With 98 lightly hand-coloured woodcut illustrations in the text by the author (the illustration on leaf 45 signed in the block, “WBusch 65”), xylographic title. Neat contemporary ink ownership inscription of Bruno Lange to front pastedown. Extremities worn, rubbed in place, but the binding firm, small reinforcement to lower inner corner of title verso and “Vorwort” recto, last leaf seemingly reattached, superficial abrasion to leaf 17 with slight loss of image, occasional small edge-splits to lower margins, lightly finger-soiled, occasional spotting, else a remarkably well-preserved and wide-margined copy.

Small binders sticker to rear pastedown. Spine a slightly cocked and toned, corners bumped, extremities a little bumped and worn, some minor expert repair to spine ends and to inner joints, foxing to contents. A very good copy.

Frontispiece photogravure portrait of Crowley by Aimee Dupont and numerous diagrams in the text.

Original navy half cloth, spines lettered in gilt, light blue cloth sides with titles blocked in navy square, light grey endpapers, top edges blue. With the pictorial dust jackets. Illustrated throughout, in colour and black and white. Posters “Der Mensch als Industriepalast” and “Stammbaum des Menschen” in rear pocket of vol. V, as issued. Additional items present, including 20 pp. offprint (3 medical papers presented in 1929), various advertisement leaflets and price lists. Bindings markedly fresh and bright, contents evenly toned as often, few minor brown spots to vol. IV pp. 116-8; jackets tanned and a little rubbed, with some closed tears and chips. Vol. II: loss to upper edge of rear panel and spine head (just touching the “F” of “Fritz”). Vol. III: closed tear to spine panel slightly affecting upper portion. Posters in beautiful condition. Overall an uncommonly well-preserved set.

New York: Bantam Spectra, 1996-2011 5 works, octavo. Original variously coloured cloth-backed boards, spines lettered in silver, gilt, and red, gilt device to front of A Dance with Dragons. With dust jackets. Map endpapers. Occasional bump to tips and spine ends, front inner hinge of A Feast for Crows tender but firm, in the jackets with a little some very minor rubbing to Game, a little creasing, and pale marks to spine panel of Dance and rear panel of Storm. A near-fine set, bright, clean, and square.

Advance announcements of the publication of Das Kapital. [In:] Der Vorbote. Politische und sozial-ökonomische Zeitschrift. Zentralorgan der Sektionsgruppe deutscher Sprache der Internationalen Arbeiterassociation. Geneva: Verlag der Association, 1867 Octavo (204 x 122 mm), a complete run (72 monthly issues from 1866 to 1871). Recent purple half morocco and marbled paper boards, new endpapers, retaining the original front free endpaper (see below). Spine lettered and dated in gilt (with the title misspelled as “Der Verbote”). Contemporary ownership inscription of “J. Most” - Johann Most (1846-1906) - in blue pencil, a second inscription to title page of April 1869 issue, and occasional annotation to the text. Contents generally clean with occasional spotting and dampmarks, some stab-holes visible at gutters, a few issues trimmed in the binding process, those printed on inferior paper stock fragile at the margins and with a few short tears and more toning than others, 1 full leaf (April 1868) and 1 half-leaf (January 1870) cut away and 4 other instances of excised portions clipped from the text by a previous owner; a rare survival.

A very good copy, unusually retaining the dust jacket with some loss to head of spine and front panel, somewhat soiled and marked, not price-clipped, still quite bright.

Contemporary ownership inscription to front free endpaper; a little light spotting; a very good copy.

Light sunning to spine and head of front cover, minor rubbing at extremities, a couple of trivial scratches to roundel, notwithstanding a near-fine copy.

Spine a touched darkened, light silverfishing to spine and head of rear cover, front inner hinge slightly cracked at preface but firm. A very good copy indeed, free from bumps, and with only negligible soiling to otherwise bright covers.
Farewell, My Lovely. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1940 Octavo. Original pink cloth, titles to front board and spine in blue, top edge blue. With dust jacket. Housed in a custom black and blue cloth flat-back box, title to label to spine and embossed to front. Spine very slightly sunned, spine ends bumped, a little rubbing to extremities, a near-fine copy, clean and free from foxing, in the very good jacket, spine panel sunned with small puncture to centre, ends nicked, extremities rubbed, not price-clipped, a bright example.
A Treatise Concerning Eternal and Immutable Morality. London: Printed for James and John Knapton, 1731 Octavo (224 x 134 mm). Contemporary red morocco, lavishly gilt in the cottage-roof style, marbled endpapers, gilt edges. Engraved portrait frontispiece by David Loggan after George Vertue. Complete with terminal advertisement leaf. With the booklabel of bookseller and bibliographer John Stephens (1948-2006) to front pastedown, and early signature “John Buckland” to initial binder’s blank. Spine lightly sunned, joints split but holding firm, tips worn, light offsetting to title page, afterwards clean save for very faint scattered foxing, light running bump at top fore edge; an excellent, wide-margined copy, splendidly bound.
